BOUTTE - If Elizabeth Blevins of Luling wasn't already a real person, someone would be writing novels about her.
"A lot of people think I'm strange because I'm so happy all the time," she said with her dancing eyes and delightful smile.
The daughter of the Rev. Jim and Marlene Blevins (of Barton Avenue Church of Christ), she hopes "to write a LOT!" And, she's looking at a career in clinical psychology to pay the bills while she does so.
Beth, 17, recently one of only 600 students nation-wide to receive the 2001 National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Award for outstanding writing performance.
She won in a school essay write-off, her topic being the writer's personal idea of a hero. Her essay was on the heroism of Jesus Christ.
She's also been a finalist in the River of Words poetry contest, but prefers writing realism and autobiography. "I write letters to friends a lot."
She loves reading history and fantasy, everything from "Anne of Green Gables" to the "Harry Potter" books.
The minister's daughter has lived in several places around the country, giving her a maturity and independence beyond her years. Beth was born in Ohio and has lived in Wisconsin, Georgia, Indiana, Alabama, Texas and Louisiana.
Her brother, Jonathan, is now a college student, and she hopes to join him there at Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
Beth's other interests include singing in ensemble choir, her four cats, "doodling" and "skipping down the hallways."
She also finds time to work on her webpage at hugglebunny.com.
With charm, a ready laugh and a powerful drive to make her mark in the world, Beth Blevins will be one to watch.
